I managed to adjust my EQ1 mount to the right
latitude (51.5 N) and mounted my compact digital camera on it. I used the
finderscope to take successive constellation pictures with 8 seconds exposure.
The first target was Cassiopeia and the second one was Cygnus and Lyra. I took
12 frames of each.
The good news was that the technique produced
clearer images than with the conventional camera tripod but I still managed to
get star trailing. This meant I could get only a small field of view, so (for
example) I could not show Lyra with Cygnus. Perhaps I needed more practice with
aligning the image against a stellar background using the finderscope.
